CREATING INCLUSIVE ACCESS FOR DISABLED CUSTOMERS
What does the law Say?
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 now makes it an offence for Service Providers to
- Treat a disabled person less favourably for reasons relating to their disability
- To alter or adopt practices, policies or procedures that make it unreasonably difficult or impossible for disabled people to use their services
- Not to provide auxiliary aids or services to assist the disabled to use their services
- Not to have made reasonable adjustments to any physical features of their premises which present a barrier to access to disabled people.
In case you were thinking that “Service Provider” might not include you. Think again.
The net is cast wide and includes shops, sports stadiums, pubs, clubs, councils, the travel industry, schools, hospitals, offices and even churches. All these and many more provide goods or services to the public.
And why do you need one?
Goods and services must be accessible to all, including the disabled. The best way to see what impact your building has on disabled customers is to undertake an Access Audit. This will provide a clear picture of the issues involved enabling you to make ddarmed decisions as to your plan of action.
Why choose Cotecna?
Cotecna’s Access Audits are conducted in a unique SMART Audit format identifying each relevant site and building feature and explains how they restrict access and provides guidance on the remedial action that should be considered. Adjustments are prioritised and are given an accurate or estimated costing.
Furthermore we at Cotecna offer sourcing for auxiliary aids and adjustments enabling us to offer a one stop solution should that be your wish.
